DIGITAL CINEMA SOCIETY
RED ROCKET UNVEILED
SEPTEMBER 5TH, 2009
LIGHTIRON proudly hosted the September meeting for the Digital Cinema Society. James Mathers and a talented group of 60 artists and technologists joined us for the unveiling of the first RED Rocket being used in a Quantel Pablo 4K.
Working with LIGHTIRON is Freehill Productions co-founder, Steve Freebairn, who demonstrated the power of the RED Rocket using REDCine X for on-set production. LIGHTIRON co-founder Katie Fellion demonstrated the speed and power of RocketCINE X for post production applications.
The event was hosted in the new expansion building of Alternative Rentals in Culver City. Director of Business Development, Joe Lomba, kicked off the event by showing off their new 2,000 square foot prep floor.
LIGHTIRON founders, Michael & Peter Cioni, worked together with Steve Freebairn to build a 4K LCD monitoring system. The 4K panel measured 48” x 38” and was fed by a REDRocket card via Quad DVI connections. This display demonstrated how impressive on-set viewing of 4K content can be fabricated for under $20,000.
Tightly packed into the LIGHTIRON Digital Cinema Theater, the DCS group of 60 was treated to the first ever demonstration of a REDRocket card being used in a Quantel Pablo 4K. Li colorist, Milton Adamou, gave a wonderful presentation of how the Rocket and Pablo work together to deliver faster than real-time debayering into the 4K uncompressed DI world of Quantel.
